Envelopes with laminated letters inside..."You have to open (do not seal them so you can re-use them!) your envelope and pull out the letters. Can you find the special message that matches the word on your envelope? Can you read that word? Can you share that word?"
We took time to build the CVC words. We found the words that rhymed with each other. Then we pulled out the "Magic E" and added it to the end of our CVC word and made a new word! "When 2 vowels go walking, the first one does the talking and the second one is quiet! Sometimes our vowels walk together, and at other times, another friend squeezes in between. Magic E can reach around that friend and tap the first vowel on the shoulder!" They all giggled...because this class was very touchy-feely and understood the word picture!
We got to read the new words and several children recognized rhyming words again!
"Can you build it?" YES...we can!
