Every April we pull out the caps and gowns to practice putting them on and "zipping them up all by myself!" Never do for a child what they can do for themselves! And you must teach them how do all the things. I never did it for the child. I showed them. I started it while they watched. They had to be able to do it...and many of them struggled the first few times, but when they got it...there was a sense of pride and accomplishment!
By the time it was time to do the pictures for the yearbook, we were ready to roll! I had all the robes ironed or steamed. The students could themselves ready fast.
It was always so exciting to go outside...jumping and twirling and giggling.
Our photographers always made it fun. The students showed me how much they had learned all year as I watched them wait patiently and follow directions.
It was always a bittersweet day in mid-April!
