Reading CVC words

For a morning activity, I wrote some words on poster paper and put out markers for the students to draw a picture to match the word they read.
They helped each other and there were some very cute pictures.  We did this activity after we had done a similar activity during lesson time.  This lesson comes after learning all the letters and sounds.  We spend alot of time with short vowels and then how to recognize beginning, ending, and middle sounds.  The students would get excited to hear me say, "Are you ready for something really hard?"  We used old dry erase markers on our desks or on protector covered paper.  I bought make-up sponges from the Dollar Tree to use for erasers.  My friends (Teacher Helpers) of the week helped with passing out the tools and collecting them.  Another teacher friend had a small writing board for each student to keep in their desk.  She taught them how to care for the board and the marker.
