February- Ground Hog Day

There are cute books at the library or recorded versions to add to storytime for February 2.  I taught children the scissor skill of folding paper in half and cutting out a heart.  So it was fun practice to use that new skill to make these easy groundhogs.  They used a circle punch for the eyes.  We added snow to our ground...because we live in the Midwest!  Let the students create!  Don't fuss or control their interpretation of your example.  Yes...you will laugh...while you hang them up after they leave.
So many fun, yet simple low prep ideas through the years!  Pinterest and TPT are the best places to find fun ideas.  Don't have extra money?  Adapt the idea for what you can do!
These posters have quick facts that you can use in class discussions.
Pull up video clips on youtube or local news channels to show the results of that year.  Poor Puxatawny Phil!
Teddy Grahams...sort of look like ground hogs if you want a special treat for the day.
