January- Fine motor skills

Winter is drab in the Midwest.  Pencil and paper can get drab!  So why not pull out a cheap can of shaving cream and make a "snow pile" on their desk.  "Push your sleeves up!  Use ONE FINGER and HAND.  How does that feel as you smear it out?  "COLD!"  And then I give numbers, letter, shapes, or simple words for them to write and "erase".  I can easily walk through as I give objects for them to write and quickly see how they are doing with recognition and formation.
It is an easy and fun way to practice!  January brings out backwards letters and numbers...it is normal and we just keep practicing!  How many different ways and tools can you offer your children to help their brains make the connections?  "What senses are you using today?" sight, smell, feel..."NOT TASTE!"
Need:  1 can shaving cream, paper towels, and maybe some wet wipes...and a trip to the bathroom to wash hands.

Your room will smell great and their desks will be shiny clean!  "That was so fun...smell my hands!"
