We were reviewing the phonics rules we have learned. "I (long i sound) in Fly Y". Wait!!! I said, that is a long vowel sound. The class looked at me. I shared with them that Y is sneaky and takes the sounds from two other letters! What do we call someone who takes something that does not belong to them? "Thief! Robber! Burglar! A Stealer!" were the answers. Our Sneaky Y is a happy guy because he uses the sounds of E or I plus he has his own sound of Y. Just a fun little thought to help children begin to learn there are many differences when we use letters in the English language!
