Making slime

For the letter S day...or just because...let's make slime!  We had an abundance of squeeze glue that had piled up in the cabinet that held all the things.  I had plastic cups and popsicle sticks in there too. I brought baking soda and my contact solution from home.  I gave directions...one step at a time and the students followed.  I was proud of them for "being careful to measure" the glue into the cup.
I went around to each desk and gave them each part.  They chose the color they wanted.  We all stirred at the same time and soon squeals were heard as they watched and felt the mixture change.  "You just did a Science experiment!"  And then we made it more fun by adding glitter.
We mixed, then kneaded, and then played!  The learning continued at we made our letters and blends.
How exciting to use our hands to practice reading!

Recipe found on Pinterest (tinkerlab): 1 bottle of Elmers glue (we used old white glue from previous year), 1 1/2 tsp baking soda, 1 1/2 tsp contact solution, 2-3 drops food coloring, sprinkle of glitter (glitter glue could be used instead).
Slime sent home in the plastic cup inside a sealed baggie.  We used Brightwheel to communicate with parents, so I sent a heads up that it was coming home.  Children must be supervised with slime!
