Christmas program highlight

This was the year that my class started the entire program for the school. I wrapped the lights around them and we walked up onto the stage during the opening prayer as the lights went down. I plugged them in and then they recited this poem. It was the cutest thing ever!!! And they received laughter and applause as every single person there had experienced the frustration of Christmas lights that do not work after they are put in place! We went back later for our song. Our school had and still has the tradition of singing "Come On, Ring Those Bells" altogether (students and staff) while the littlest ones ring bells. It is the ending to a busy first semester as we get ready for the two week Christmas vacation.

A special service project

We brought in all sorts of special items to make care bags to take to the cancer treatment center in our city. I looked up ideas for what would be most helpful to people enduring chemotherapy treatments. I also called the center to see if this is something they would accept. Parents donated. We counted and sorted. We followed directions about what to put in each bag. We chatted about helping people who were not feeling well and how we hoped these things would make them feel a little better. They were so careful to put only one of each item in the bag so we could make lots of bags! We love it when Miss M and Miss A would come and help us in our classroom! This group loved doing this project! They drew happy little pictures which I color copied and we made cards to go in each bag. We shared the love of Jesus. We told the people that we prayed for them. We prayed for the people that would get the bag. The day I took the bags, every chair was full of patients....

Tastes Around the World

Our curriculum includes a geography section that teaches about children around the world. We have fun learning facts about a few countries. We learn what children do, what they speak, what they eat, and other interesting things like animals, games, and land. When we get done making our little booklets, we have a special Tastes Around the World day. The students and parents choose a country and food to share. We all try a little of everything (as long as there are no food allergies). The students show how much they have grown as they are willing to try things. If they like something, they are welcome to go back for more! If they don't like it, they leave it on their plate and say "No, thank you." The parents always go above and beyond! I provide fun little plates, napkins, silverware, and a special drink (usually from Mexico). I tell them about trying it when Mr. T and I went there on vacation.
