Number families

Asking which family does this number "96" belong to...90!  We used popsicle sticks to manipulate.
How many groups of 10 does "89" have?  We used the 80 stick and then counted out 9 ones using small parts.
Building number sense in so many ways....why?  Because each child learns differently and you never know what will "make it click" for that child!  How many different ways can you present a lesson to help a struggling learner?  Involve the child in multiple ways every day.
