We always focused much time for reading in March. At the end of the month, I encouraged children to bring their favorite Mother Goose Rhyme to school to share with the class. Most children were able to read it to us, I helped with some tricky words for others. One year we dressed up, but most of February is dress up and crazy, so I put that aside. I purchased this stuffed Mother goose who reads several favorite rhymes. My goal is Kindergarten is to share all sorts of books! Reading is for everyone! Each person like to read different types of books. Make time to share special books of students and read them to the class. Talk about different authors and characters. Provide LOTS of books for the children to touch and look at in the classroom. Teach children how to care for books.
We can read pictures! We can read letters! We can make blends. We can make words. We can read words! We can make and then read sentences. We can read stories! There is a progression to reading...make the connections for your students enjoyable each and every day!
